Leg Up’s Spring Intern!

Spring Intern, Mindy

Spring Intern, Mindy

My name is Mindy and I am very excited to announce that I am the Leg Up Program’s Spring Intern! I am spending this spring in my hometown, Fort Worth, after three semesters spent at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. I feel very lucky to be able to be a part of Leg Up while I am taking this semester off from school.

Service has always played a large role in my life. I grew up with the expectation that the apostle Luke wrote, “from everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded.” With this in mind, I have been involved in a variety of service organizations and projects, beginning with my high school’s community service club. I have served the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, on mission trips that have taken me as far as Nicaragua, as a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, as an employee of STAR Education in Los Angeles, and much more. I am grateful and excited to fulfill my passion for giving back, once again in my hometown!

My current internships, the knowledge I gained while attending LMU, and the foundation my family and community instilled in me, have all led me to a strong desire to begin a new academic journey. Currently, I am eagerly awaiting responses from the universities that I applied to for the final two years of my college career (so fingers crossed!). My plan is to study International Relations and Economics, which will develop my ability to navigate challenges, achieve personal and professional success, and inspire others to see the world with eyes that are full of love, wonder, and acceptance.

Since beginning at the Leg Up, I have already learned a great amount about what the homeless in our community face when trying to get back on their feet, like where to do laundry when you have no money or home, or how to afford a haircut so you can look polished and prepared when interviewing for a job, all things that most of us don’t think about.

I am eager to contribute to the Leg Up, and I am excited to be a part of the awareness and unfolding of the Leg Up Program moving forward! With no shortage of things to learn, I am sure that this spring will be full of milestones and benchmarks that I will carry with me into my future and career.

Till next time!
