There are 6,714 unduplicated individuals who are homeless in our community. This includes veterans, families, and unaccompanied youth. Everyone experiencing homelessness has their own unique story, but what they all have in common is that they need your help today.
Are you ready join the conversation and help a homeless neighbor?
Homelessness, feels like an impossible situation to those experiencing it. The number one thing heard by those who advocate for the homeless, is how hopeless it feels. The LegUp is here to bring hope through advocacy, education, and support. It’s our mission to aid in rehousing, employment assistance, need based coaching, and whatever else we can customize within our program to get people off the street, out of assistance, and to gain independence and stability in their lives.
HUD defines homelessness in 4 ways:
- People who are living in a place not meant for human habitation, in emergency shelter, in transitional housing, or are exiting an institution where they temporarily resided.
- People who are losing their primary nighttime residence, which may include a motel or hotel or a doubled up situation, within 14 days and lack resources or support networks to remain in housing.
- Families with children or unaccompanied youth who are unstably housed and likely to continue in that state.
- People who are fleeing or attempting to flee domestic violence, have no other residence, and lack the resources or support networks to obtain other permanent housing.
The LegUp is here to bridge the gap in people’s transition from Homeless to Hopeful to Home.
